How to choose the ideal home sound system

You might be someone who values your sound system more than the television itself, in fact, this is more common than you might think. A quality sound system can make the difference when it comes to enjoying your favourite film or series, without forgetting how good the base is of that group of sounds that make you vibrate, but this only happens with surround and quality audio.

First steps

First of all, and although it might seem trivial, the first decision you should make is whether you are willing to carry out an installation with or without cables.  Depending on the configuration of the room in which you are going to install your sound system, you will be able to hide the cables inside the wall or, if this isn’t possible, you will have to staple each cable while you go around the frame of each door.

Why this choice? Choosing one option or another will make your best option a complete “home cinema” style system, consisting of a receiver/amplifier, speakers and subwoofer, or a sound bar.  The latter option gives you the possibility of foregoing additional equipment, or at most, accompanying it with a subwoofer to give power to the base of your favourite song. However, you should also bear in mind that there are “home cinema” configurations with wireless speakers, undoubtedly a great alternative!

Numbers matter

A fact you should know before you make a decision is that, in any sound system, the number of speakers is defined by a number, the first digit being the number of speakers and the second indicates whether it has a subwoofer or not.

If you're not sure what number is best, we can help: among the most common sound systems, the most in-demand are 2.1, and above all, the 5.1, a wonderful surround sound made up of five speakers that will make you feel like you’re inside the screen.

The best sound systems for your home

Indeed, the time for truth has come. We show you the best options for boosting the sound in your home with maximum quality.

  1. Home cinema

This type encompasses all the sound systems made up of receiver/amplifier, speakers and subwoofer.  The most common is to get a comprehensive solution, although you always have the option of buying each of the components separately and making a completely personalised sound system.

  1. Sound bars

If you don't plan to spread five or more speakers around the room (or it isn’t logistically possible), the best thing to do is to opt for a sound bar, an option that is gaining more fans every day.  As we have already mentioned, you can choose to complement it with a subwoofer or not, that’s up to you.

The advantages of a sound bar compared to a home cinema? In spite of the fact you will lose the surround sound of a home cinema, it takes up much less space and, in addition, most of the models include a USB connection to play files, definitely something to bear in mind.

  1. Headphones

Last, but not least, you have the option of enjoying your sound system with quality headphones, both wired and wireless.  For those moments when letting loose with your sound system isn't an option, having hi-fi headphones can give you comfort, lightness and a good quality sound, even 5.1 or 7.1.

With all this information at your reach, it's time to decide which is the ideal sound system for your home, with the certainty of not losing even one sound!
